Why I LOVE garage sales!

I took both the kids this morning and hit a dozen or so garage sales (or lawn sales and driveway sales as my daughter informed me they should rightfully be named, since none were actually in the garage). We made a H-A-U-L.

The weather in N. Texas has been HOT, I mean 105°+  until this past week were we were high 70°-80° for a few days and so begins the start of  GOOD garage sale-ing!

We spent right around $20. We were on the look out for new bikes as both kids have grown by inches and bounds over the summer…no luck on bikes but we did score some other great deals! Over 23 clothing items; mostly for my daughter, all name brand…Justice, Children’s Place, Gap, Old Navy, Aeropostale, American Eagle, etc. I even scored two brand new GAP summer dresses for myself! We got a couple brand new leapfrog DVD’s for my 4 year old, plus some great learning flash cards and workbooks. My daughter got a few Judy Blume books and some new math-workbooks.  They were both thrilled about the US puzzle in the cool carrying case and the wading pool (which is strange because thy are both too big for it, but it was FREE so we’ll enjoy it until they’re bored and then pass it along)! Missing from the photos are two  suvvy puppies my son latched onto and a bag of “magic rocks” my daughter was excited about!

When I garage sale I am careful not to come home with junk. I inspect all clothing for holes, tears and stains. I try not to get emotionally attached to anything just because it’s “a good deal” and I only buy things I know we will be able to utilize and sell or pass on later!  Hope you have as much fun finding garage sale deals as we do!

Kroger:

Kroger was having a BIG Meat sale and although I was a bit disappointed in the quantity, quality and selection offered; we did find a few things! Specifically, I wanted a couple whole Turkeys at 88¢/lb but for some reason our Kroger didn’t stock any. After much searching and questioning what seemed like every employee, all in quandary,  my husband dug behind the  20 pounder butterball turkeys and found these two lonely whole turkey breasts that the very apologetic manager agreed to give us for the 88¢ /lb. I was more than thrilled, these were marked $2.79/lb!  And on top of that, when I scanned my Kroger card it took another 31¢/lb so all-in-all I Paid $8.70 for nearly 15lbs of whole turkey breast, about 58¢ /lb. These were over $37.00 retail, who would pay that? We also bought:

Brisket Managers special $5.22

Whole Chicken $3.14

Ground Turkey $1.29

(2) 6 pk Del Monte Raisins $1 each. Paid $2.00

Apples $2.00

Green Apples $1.00

(3) Larabar’s $1.25 each. Used 75¢/3 internet coupon. Paid $3.00/3 (really wish I could find these cheaper)

Walmart:

Confession: I think I have shopped more at Walmart in the past 30 days than ever before in my life! we have four Walmarts within 10 miles of our home and generally I despise the closest ones, however they just remolded one of them and it’s very nice. the employees are some of the friendliest Walmart employees ever and I’ve never had trouble with coupons there…the other Walmarts…well…..:(

(1) 1 lb Strawberries, price-matched to sprouts at 97¢/lb. Paid $5.82/6lbs

(4) Fruit chillers. $2 each; Used (4)-$1 coupons from inserts. Paid $4/4

Rubbermaid pitcher, clearanced for $3.00

(4) 10 #2 pencils, price-matched Walgreens 9¢ each. Paid 36¢/4

FREE Flip-Flops!

Remember the $10 coupon code Famous Footwear issued via facebook? Well, my FREE shoes came last week and they’re great!

I ordered these for my husband, they are mens after-all! But lucky for me we wear the same size shoes (yeah yeah, I have big feet)! They’re a little wide for me but they are really comfortable…we may have to share! Just another reason I love coupons…in all forms!

(I generally avoid Walmart at all costs, but I had coupons expiring and for these specific items Walmart is significantly cheaper than my Target, Kroger and Albertsons. Many times if the difference is under fifty-cents I’ll spend it elsewhere…but the Apple & Eve juice was more than $1.00 cheaper each and for double the amount…I suppose it was worth the anxiety!)

FAMOUS FOOTWEAR:Photobucket

After all the chaos, hackers and whatever else on Famous Footware’s Facebook page, I wasn’t sure if I’d actually make it into the store and find something (this was before they re-introduced the ‘online’ deal). But I did, I found my daughter some great Adidas flip-flops for $11.99 so only $1.99+tax after the $10 coupon!

CVS July 12th:PhotobucketI’m Not a HUGE drugstore game player; I don’t usually use or need most of the items that provide the best offers (Extra Care Bucks at CVS or Register Rewards at Walgreens). I had ECB’s At CVS that were expiring and found some deals!

ALBERTSONS:PhotobucketI ran into Albertsons to grab some eggs and found a great deal on books! They had two carts filled with misc. books marked down several times with an additional 75% off the marked price. I snagged several children books that will be perfect for gifts! These were all about $1 each!

My favorite FACEBOOK coupons:

Facebook is such a great place for coupons! Here are my favorite:

Famous Footwear: $10 of $10 online purchase!

Famous Footwear had some issues, “hackers” they said, with the $10 off $10 coupon code they offered yesterday. They have initiated a NEW offer, still $10 off $10, for online purchases if you become a fan! Detailed instructions are listed under their “exclusive offer” tab. Basically all you need to do is send an email to the address given and they will send you a one-time use code…sounds like people were abusing the coupon offer previously. I sent my email and am excited to see what we can get…these kidlets of mine have feet that just don’t stop growing! The coupon codes will be sent 7/14 and expires 7/15 so be on the watch, shipping will be FREE!
